Patient Diagnosis: Cerebral Palsy

Ultraflex Therapy Support: Dynamic Assist Stretching Ankle-Foot Orthosis (at rest/nighttime)

Sophie, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, has been wearing bilateral Ultraflex dynamic assist stretching Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) at rest/nighttime for the past seven years to maintain muscle length and range during growth, reduce the amount of daytime bracing and delay more aggressive interventions. Sophie wears her AFO braces around the house, while watching TV and playing on the computer.

Sophie’s parents reported that Ultraflex braces have been helping stretch the back of Sophie’s legs and making their 12-year old daughter feel much better. Sophie plays on the school basketball team and also enjoys biking and swimming. Sophie proudly said, “I don’t ever have to give up even though I have CP. I can do everything everyone else can do. I just do it in a different way.”

“The flexibility makes me stronger and helps me especially when I’m horseback riding.”

With gratitude for their clinical contributions to Keith Smith, CO, LO, FAAOP of O&P Labs in St. Louis, MO; and Ashley Cavender, MPT of St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Special thank you to Sophie and her family for sharing their story.
